SuperSonics give Hornets thrashing
Rashard Lewis made six 3-pointers and scored 26 points as the Seattle SuperSonics beat the New Orleans Hornets for the fourth straight time, 103-85 Wednesday night.
Lewis made 8 of 11 field goals and 6 of 8 3-pointers – one more than the Hornets – capping the performance with a perfect night at the free-throw line, where he was 4 of 4.
After using a late rally to knock off the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night, the Sonics took an early lead against New Orleans. Lewis’ 24-foot 3-pointer put Seattle up 3-2 less than a minute into the game and it was never in doubt after that. The Sonics led by as much as 21 in the first half and were up by 53-35 at the break.
The Hornets were led by J.R. Smith with 19 points. Former Gonzaga University point guard Dan Dickau reached double figures for the 18th straight game, scoring 13 points.
Pacers 93, Heat 91 (OT): At Indianapolis, with injured Shaquille O’Neal watching from Miami’s bench, Indiana’s Jermaine O’Neal scored all three Pacers baskets in overtime, including a turnaround jumper from the baseline with 11 seconds remaining, in a victory over the Heat. O’Neal finished with 29 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots as the Pacers won their fourth straight and their 11th in a row over the Heat. Dwyane Wade had 38 points for Miami.
Lakers 86, Trail Blazers 83: At Portland, Ore., Kobe Bryant had 31 points and Los Angeles held off a second-half Portland rally to beat the Trail Blazers. Shareef Abdur-Rahim missed a 3-point attempt at the final buzzer, giving the Lakers their third straight win. Damon Stoudamire scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half for the Blazers, who have won just one of their last six games.
Warriors 101, Hawks 96: At Oakland, Calif., Jason Richardson scored 31 points, Derek Fisher added 20 and Golden State sent Atlanta to its17th straight road loss. Antoine Walker scored 27 points and rookie Josh Childress had 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds for the Hawks.
Cavaliers 100, Bulls 91: At Cleveland, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and LeBron James scored 41 of Cleveland’s 57 points in the second half as the Cavaliers beat Chicago.
Wizards 93, Grizzlies 83: At Washington, D.C., Gilbert Arenas scored 30 points, Antwan Jamison added 27 and Washington snapped a three game losing streak with a victory over Memphis.
Suns 118, Clippers 101: At Phoenix, Leandro Barbosa, playing in place of the injured Steve Nash, scored a season-high 22 points, helping Phoenix hand Los Angeles its eighth consecutive loss.
Spurs 99, Rockets 81: At San Antonio, Tim Duncan scored 30 points and Tony Parker added 22 to lead San Antonio to a win over Houston, its first over the Rockets in three tries this season.
Mavericks 101, Jazz 83: At Salt Lake City, Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 of his 29 points in the second half and Dallas rallied after blowing a 15-point lead to beat Utah.
Bucks 100, Nets 81: At Milwaukee, Desmond Mason scored 15 points, ZaZa Pachulia tied his career high with 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Milwaukee defeated New Jersey.
Nuggets 107, Celtics 86: At Denver, Andre Miller scored 22 points and Carmelo Anthony had 19 points, six rebounds and six assists to help Denver over Boston.
