Dallas destroys Wizards
Jerry Stackhouse scored a season-high 29 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 28 points to surpass 10,000 for his career as the Dallas Mavericks racked up the most points in the NBA this season with a 137-120 rout of the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night in Dallas.
Jason Terry and Michael Finley added 25 points apiece to help the Mavericks to their seventh win in the last nine games.
Nowitzki became the fifth member of the Mavericks to reach 10,000 career points when he hit a jumper with 7:14 left in the first quarter.
Gilbert Arenas scored a career-high 43 points and Antawn Jamison, the Mavericks’ sixth man last season, added 27 to pace the Wizards.
Washington got off to a listless start after losing by 28 points at San Antonio on Monday night and was behind by 20 points heading into the second quarter.
The Wizards, who began their road trip with a seven-game winning streak, have lost their last two games since Larry Hughes went on the injured list because of a fractured right thumb. Hughes was averaging 21.2 points per game, second on the team to Arenas.
Magic 103, Pistons 101: At Orlando, Fla., Steve Francis scored 32 points and Hedo Turkoglu added a season-high 29 as Orlando snapped Detroit’s six-game winning streak.
Doug Christie, playing his first home game since being acquired in a trade from Sacramento a week ago, hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:26 remaining. That shot, which put the Magic up 98-96, highlighted a 20-6 stretch run.
Pacers 87, Rockets 74: At Houston, Jamaal Tinsley scored 28 points, including six during a key 10-0 run in the fourth quarter, and Jermaine O’Neal added 27 as Indiana beat Houston.

Nelson to undergo surgery
Dallas coach Don Nelson will have shoulder surgery Thursday and is expected to be out until mid-February. Assistant Avery Johnson will run the team in his absence, beginning Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
NBA makes schedule changes
Not wanting Donovan McNabb to overshadow Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA made two schedule changes to avoid having the Miami Heat-Philadelphia 76ers game conflict with the Philadelphia Eagles’ NFL playoff game against Atlanta.
The Heat-76ers game in Philadelphia, originally scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff Sunday, was moved to 7 p.m. Monday. Miami was originally scheduled to be home Monday night against the New Orleans Hornets, but that game has been moved up to Sunday at 6 p.m.
