Day care reports 3 threats

Anonymous callers allegedly threatened to kill a registered sex offender whose wife owns a Coeur d’Alene day care.

Happy Days Day Care owner Misty Krous reported to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department Thursday that she received three threatening calls about noon Tuesday. Krous said she didn’t remember much of what was said in the calls, but that two were from a man and one from a woman.

In one call, the man said he was going to kill Krous’ husband. The female caller mentioned “coming to the day care,” Misty Krous told police. Both callers used profanity.

Stephen Christopher Krous, 31, is a registered sex offender and is under investigation for allegedly offering a 3-year-old at the day care a lollipop if she would let him look at her.

The child’s mother filed a report with the Panhandle Health District on July 12. Coeur d’Alene police are investigating the mother’s allegations against Krous.

Krous failed a polygraph exam when he was questioned about the incident July 15, according to a report from his probation officer, Bob Anderson. Later that day, Krous was booked into Kootenai County Jail on charges that he violated terms of his probation by showing up at the day care. He was released Wednesday on $25,000 bail.

Misty Krous said she didn’t recognize the voices and that she doesn’t have caller ID.

Stephen Krous told the polygraph examiner that he believed it was one of his wife’s former employees who had made the complaint about him tempting the girl with a lollipop, according to the probation report. “Why they did it, I have no idea,” Krous was quoted as saying. “It’s just the type of person they are.”

In 2001, the state revoked Misty Krous’ license and shut down her Post Falls in-home day care, Loving Hands, after Stephen Krous was convicted of fondling an 11-year-old staying overnight at their home.
