Robin Orth promoted to major in Air Force

Robin Orth has been selected for promotion to the rank of major in the Air Force. Orth, a program manager with nine years of military service, is assigned to Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, Calif. He is the son of Bob and Linda Orth of Nine Mile Falls and graduated in 1992 from Gonzaga Preparatory High School.

“ Army National Guard Pvt. Emerson Haisley has graduated from the power-generation equipment repairer advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md. Haisley, 2004 graduate of North Central Spokane High School, is the son of Robin Haisley of Spokane.

“ Spokane Community College electrical maintenance and automation student Jeff Meredith recently received the program’s Outstanding Student Award. He was recognized for extraordinary pursuit of excellence and achievement in the study of electricity and its application in electrical maintenance and automation.

Robert Mills, a third-quarter electronics engineering student at Spokane Community College, took first place at the Skills USA state competition in April. He competes at nationals in Kansas City, Mo., this month.

Heather Smiley was awarded scholarships at both Whitworth College and Eastern Washington University. She will attend EWU in the fall to complete a bachelor’s degree in piano performance with an emphasis on teaching.

Sabrina Slater, a 2001 graduate of Ferris High School, recently received a Bachelor of Arts in cognitive science from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. She is the daughter of Bill and Selina Slater of Spokane.

Joseph Covey of Spokane received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.

Anna Schara of Spokane has been placed on the honor roll for the spring semester at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn.

Patrick Clinton has been named to the dean’s list at Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio. He is the son of David and Sally Clinton of Spokane.

Amanda Carson of Spokane has been named to the dean’s list for the University of Washington. She also was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Carson, a 2004 graduate of Ferris High School, is the daughter William Carson and Karla Honda, both of Spokane.

Kathryn Dean was inducted into the Phi Society at Denison University, Granville, Ohio. Dean, the daughter of Charles and Jeanne Dean of Coeur d’Alene, is a 2003 graduate of Gonzaga Prep.
