Giants 4, Tigers 0: At Detroit, Jason Schmidt pitched eight strong innings, and Tyler Walker got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth by striking out three straight batters to lead San Francisco over Detroit.

Cardinals 6, Devil Rays 4: At St Petersburg, Fla., Mark Mulder allowed three runs over seven innings, helping St. Louis beat Tampa Bay.

Indians 13, Diamondbacks 6: At Cleveland, Jhonny Peralta and Grady Sizemore hit back-to-back homers, and Casey Blake had two hits and three RBIs during a 10-run third as Cleveland beat Arizona.

Blue Jays 9, Brewers 5: At Toronto, Frank Menechino hit his first two homers of the season, and Eric Hinske added a three-run shot to lead Toronto over Milwaukee.

Rockies 2, Orioles 1: At Baltimore, Todd Helton ended a lengthy home run drought, and Jason Jennings scattered six hits over seven innings as Colorado beat Baltimore.

Yankees 9, Cubs 6: At New York, Hideki Matsui hit a go-ahead homer and drove in five runs, and New York rallied late to keep Chicago winless at Yankee Stadium.

Red Sox 6, Pirates 5: At Boston, Johnny Damon bounced a bases-loaded single through a drawn-in infield to break a ninth-inning tie, giving Boston a victory over Pittsburgh in a rematch of the first World Series.

White Sox 6, Dodgers 0: At Chicago, Mark Buehrle won his seventh straight decision, pitching an eight-hit shutout to lead Chicago over Los Angeles in the first meeting between the teams since the 1959 World Series.

Astros 7, Royals 0: At Kansas City, Mo., Roger Clemens got his 333rd win with his 500th decision, dominating Kansas City in Houston’s win. Clemens has not surrendered a run in five road starts this year spanning 32 innings.

Rangers 8, Nationals 1: At Arlington, Texas, Kenny Rogers pitched out of trouble all night to win his career-best ninth straight decision, and Texas defeated Washington.

Twins 5, Padres 4 (11): At Minneapolis, Glenn Williams drove in his first major league run with a bases-loaded single in the 11th to lift Minnesota over San Diego.

Phillies 6, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Robinson Tejeda got his first major league win and Todd Pratt drove in three runs to lead Philadelphia past Oakland. Tejeda (1-0) gave up four hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Angels 3, Marlins 2 (11): At Los Angeles, Jeff DaVanon’s single in the 11th drove in the winning run to help Los Angeles defeat Florida.

National league

Braves 10, Reds 5: At Cincinnati, rookie Kelly Johnson hit a grand slam and a two-run homer for a career-high six RBIs, and Andruw Jones also homered twice to lead Atlanta to a win over Cincinnati.
