Red Sox 5, Tigers 3: At Detroit, Doug Mirabelli hit his third career grand slam and John Halama limited Detroit to two runs and four hits in five innings in his first start of the season to help Boston beat Detroit on Tuesday night.

Blue Jays 1, Orioles 0: Josh Towers outpitched Daniel Cabrera, Russ Adams drove in the game’s only run with a 15-foot hit in the eighth inning, and visiting Toronto beat Baltimore. Towers (3-1) gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two in eight innings. The right-hander did not allow a runner past first base in improving to 4-2 against his former team.

Devil Rays 11, Yankees 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Tampa Bay batted around on Kevin Brown in the first inning, scoring six runs on their way to a victory in the debut of the revamped lineup New York is counting on to pull it out of an early-season funk.

White Sox 5, Royals 4: Carl Everett hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the eighth and rookie Tadahito Iguchi went 4 for 4 with his first major league home run, leading Chicago over visiting Kansas City.

Indians 4, Twins 2: At Minneapolis, Jake Westbrook won for the first time this season, and his teammates began to hit as Cleveland beat Minnesota. Travis Hafner and Casey Blake each homered for the Indians, who carried a major league-worst .225 team batting average into the game.

Rangers 6, Athletics 1: Alfonso Soriano and Rod Barajas each drove in two runs and Chris Young pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to lead visiting Texas to victory at Oakland, Calif.

National League

Phillies 10, Mets 3: At New York, Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer off struggling Tom Glavine, and Bobby Abreu had four RBIs to lead Philadelphia to a rout of New York.

Cardinals 4, Reds 2: Jason Marquis gave up only three hits while taking a shutout into the ninth, leading visiting St. Louis to a victory over Cincinnati.

Marlins 11, Braves 6: At Atlanta, Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Delgado had four RBIs apiece, and Florida beat Atlanta in a game matching the top two teams in the East.

Brewers 4, Cubs 1: At Milwaukee, Carlos Lee broke a tie in the sixth with his second double of the game to help Milwaukee defeat slumping Chicago for its fifth consecutive victory.

Pirates 7, Astros 4: Craig Wilson had four hits, including a tiebreaking single in a three-run eighth, to lead visiting Pittsburgh over Houston.

Diamondbacks 3, Giants 2: At Phoenix, Tony Clark hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth, and Arizona held on to beat San Francisco and stop the Giants’ six-game winning streak.

Padres 2, Rockies 1: Damian Jackson, brought back to the big leagues earlier in the day, hit an RBI double with two outs in the eighth to give San Diego a win over visiting Colorado.

Dodgers 4, Nationals 2: At Los Angeles, Jeff Weaver pitched six effective innings, slumping Jason Phillips hit a two-out, two-run double in the fifth to drive in the go-ahead runs, and Los Angeles beat Washington for its fourth win in five games.
