Red Sox 5, Braves 2: At Boston, Matt Clement (5-0) allowed four hits and retired the side in order seven times to lead the Red Sox to a victory over Atlanta. Clement struck out seven and walked none.

Yankees 5, Mets 3: At New York, Hideki Matsui had a two-run single in the eighth inning and Bernie Williams followed with an RBI double to rally the Yankees to a victory over the Mets in Shea Stadium.

Cubs 4, White Sox 3: At Chicago, Mark Prior (4-1) tossed a six-hitter and Jason Dubois hit a three-run homer as the Cubs averted a three-game sweep by beating the White Sox in Wrigley Field.

Dodgers 6, Angels 2: At Los Angeles, Derek Lowe (4-4) pitched seven effective innings, Ricky Ledee and Jason Phillips homered, and the Dodgers beat the Angels.

Diamondbacks 1, Tigers 0: At Detroit, Javier Vazquez (5-3) pitched a five-hitter for his first shutout since 2003, and Craig Counsell’s RBI single in the eighth inning sent Arizona past the Tigers.

Twins 6, Brewers 5 (11): At Minneapolis, Shannon Stewart hit a tying two-out, two-run homer in the ninth and Junior Spivey’s error allowed the winning run to score in the 11th as Minnesota rallied to beat Milwaukee.

Royals 9, Cardinals 2: At Kansas City, Mo., John Buck’s homer capped a nightmarish first inning for St. Louis shortstop David Eckstein, whose two errors led to six unearned runs as the Royals pounded the Cardinals.

Phillies 7, Orioles 2: At Baltimore, Cory Lidle (4-3) pitched a six-hitter, and Pat Burrell went 3 for 3 with a three-run homer and a walk to lead Philadelphia over the Orioles.

Nationals 9, Blue Jays 2: At Toronto, Jose Guillen hit a three-run double, Tony Blanco added his first major league homer and Tomo Ohka pitched eight strong innings to lead Washington past the Blue Jays.

Rangers 2, Astros 0: At Arlington, Texas, Chan Ho Park (4-1) pitched seven sharp innings, Mark Teixeira homered and Texas completed a three-game sweep of Houston.

Marlins 8, Devil Rays 5: At Miami, Juan Encarnacion had a two-run double and pinch-hitter Juan Pierre added two RBIs with a single during a seven-run sixth inning, and Florida completed a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay.

Indians 9, Reds 2: At Cincinnati, Cliff Lee (5-2) struck out seven and Grady Sizemore drove in a pair of runs with a triple and a single to lead Cleveland past the Reds in the rubber game of the three-game series.

Giants 3, Athletics 1: At San Francisco, Moises Alou hit a two-run homer and Noah Lowry (2-5) ended a six-start winless stretch with seven sharp innings, leading the Giants past Oakland in the rubber game of the Bay Bridge Series.

National league

Rockies 4, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, Joe Kennedy (3-4) won on the road for the first time this season and Colorado beat the Pirates for only its third road victory this season.
