Devil Rays 5, Athletics 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Josh Phelps, Lakeland High alumnus, homered and had three RBIs, and Julio Lugo snapped a seventh inning tie with a run-scoring single to help Tampa Bay beat Oakland. Phelps went 3 for 4, with an RBI single, a double and a two-run homer.

Yankees 12, Tigers 3: At New York, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada each homered twice, and surging New York routed Detroit behind Mike Mussina.

Blue Jays 9, Red Sox 6: At Toronto, Reed Johnson homered twice, including a tiebreaking three-run drive in the ninth inning that led Toronto over Boston.

Rangers 4, Royals 3: At Arlington, Richard Hidalgo homered twice to back Ryan Drese, and Texas beat Kansas City to stretch their winning streak to four.

Twins 6, Indians 3 (11): At Cleveland, Justin Morneau dropped in a three-run double just out of center fielder Grady Sizemore’s reach with two outs in the 11th inning, sending Minnesota to a win over Cleveland.

White Sox 2, Angels 1 (11): At Anaheim, Calif., Tadahito Iguchi hit a run-scoring single in the 11th and Carl Everett homered, leading Chicago to a victory over Los Angeles.

National League

Braves 4, Mets 0: At Atlanta, Tim Hudson threw eight shutout innings to lift Atlanta past former teammate Tom Glavine and New York. Johnny Estrada had three hits for the Braves.

Marlins 4, Phillies 3 (10): At Miami, Damion Easley tied the game with a two-out homer in the ninth inning, and Carlos Delgado’s RBI double in the 10th gave Florida a victory over Philadelphia.

Brewers 6, Rockies 1: At Milwaukee, Carlos Lee homered and drove in four runs, and Victor Santos stopped his four-game losing streak as Milwaukee beat Colorado.

Cubs 4, Astros 2: At Chicago, after Roger Clemens shut out Chicago for five innings on two hits before leaving with tightness in his groin, the Cubs rallied for four runs in the eighth to beat Houston.

Cardinals 2, Pirates 1, (12): At St. Louis, Yadier Molina hit a game-winning single in the 12th inning off Jose Mesa, and St. Louis won its 11th straight against Pittsburgh. Manager Tony La Russa won his 823rd game with the Cardinals, passing Whitey Herzog for second place on the franchise list. La Russa is 218 victories behind franchise leader Red Schoendienst.

Giants 5, Dodgers 3: At San Francisco, Jason Schmidt pitched five effective innings and hit a home run in San Francisco’s victory over Los Angeles. Mike Matheny added a three-run homer and Edgardo Alfonzo had three hits and drove in a run for the Giants.

Reds 4, Nationals 3 (14): At Cincinnati, Randy Keisler earned a win with his arm and his bat. The reliever’s first career hit and RBI helped Cincinnati beat Washington.

Padres 9, Diamondbacks 5: At Phoenix, Phil Nevin drove in two runs with a homer and single, Ramon Hernandez had a two-run double and San Diego scored five runs in the last two innings to beat Arizona.
