The following nonprofit organizations need volunteer help. If you’re interested, please contact them directly:

Kootenai County Juvenile Probation Department Mentor Program: Mentors needed to act as friends, one-to-one, with juveniles on probation. No teaching or discipline. Men especially needed. Requires application and background check. One hour a week, committing up to one year. Jim Simmerman, 446-1939, leave message.

Food Banks in North Idaho: Contact these agencies directly to see if they need volunteer help or to donate food: Coeur d’Alene Community Action Food Bank, 664-8757; Post Falls Food Bank, 773-0139; St. Vincent’s, 765-4741; Rathdrum Food Bank, 687-3696; Spirit Lake Food Bank, 623-3107; Bonner Food Center, 263-3663.

Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra League: Volunteers needed to help at lobby tables at concerts or to furnish refreshments to the orchestra on the Friday night before a concert. Contact Barb, 664-4192.

Coeur d’Alene Police Department: Volunteers needed to help in office as needed, including data entry and general record keeping. Minimum of 16 hours per month. Call Wally, 666-5732.

Area elementary schools: Please phone individual elementary schools to find out if they need in-class or one-to-one volunteers.

Kootenai Medical Center Auxiliary: Volunteers needed to work throughout the hospital, delivering flowers, working in the gift shop, working reception, and doing various other tasks. Any interests, any hours. Pick up an application at the main reception desk at KMC or check the KMC Web site.
