Mead, EV’s Atwood win
East Valley’s Nick Atwood got the individual victory, but Mead took home the team title at Saturday’s Richland Invitational cross country meet.
Atwood finished the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 27 seconds, for a 4-second gap on Mead’s Taylor Nepon.
Mead, which also got a fourth-place finish from Dylan Hatcher (15:42), finished with 33 team points, well ahead of second-place Hermiston (103). East Valley was fourth (142).
•Ryan Zentz of Lewis and Clark and Melissa McFadden of Post Falls won individual titles at the Bullpup Invite at Finch Arboretum. Zentz finished the 5,000-meter course in 16:33, 2 seconds ahead of North Central’s Andrew Scott. NC took the team title with 50 points. McFadden finished in 19:58, 4 seconds ahead of teammate Angie Whalen. CV took the team title with 84 points.
Girls soccer
Danni Hansen scored 5 minutes from time as Riverside (6-3, 5-1, 16 points Great Northern League) beat Deer Park (5-5, 3-3, nine points) 3-2 at Deer Park. … Emily Kern scored from 35 yards out in the 76th minute and had one of Medical Lake’s three shootout goals as the Cardinals (4-5, 3-3, eight points) rallied for a 2-1 win over Lakeside (4-6, 3-3, nine points) at Nine Mile Falls. … Cory Druffel, Emily Bottemiller and Katie Spangenberg all had two goals as Pullman (9-1, 6-0, 17 points) routed Chewelah (1-8, 0-6, 1 point) 7-0 in Chewelah.
Volleyball
Miranda Weitz had 13 kills and a pair of aces as Pullman (6-0 in GNL) held off Chewelah (4-3) 26-24, 19-25, 25-23, 27-25 at Chewelah.
