Viks oust Bengals, will play LC for title
Coeur d’Alene will drive across town Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. showdown with rival Lake City for the 5A Region I boys soccer championship after dispatching visiting Lewiston 6-1 Monday in a loser-out semifinal.
Garret Lowell was a one-man wrecking crew for the Vikings, scoring the game’s first four goals, the first three coming in a six-minute span late in the first half for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Justin Honsaker, who assisted on Lowell’s first goal, also added a goal and Brayden Jerde had two assists.

It’s going to be No. 1 against No. 2 for the Idaho 4A Region I championship Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Sandpoint after the Bulldogs and Lakeland Hawks scored shutout wins.
Sandpoint (10-4-4), which not only finished as the No. 1 4A school in the Inland Empire League but also was first overall, beat Post Falls 3-0.
(It was incorrectly reported in Sunday’s editions that Coeur d’Alene was first in the IEL. The Vikings were the No. 1 5A school.)
Becca Stone’s header at the 26-minute mark, the Bulldogs’ first header for a goal this season, was all the scoring Sandpoint needed. Post Falls is out.
Lakeland (12-4-1), the No. 2 4A school in the league, secured its spot in the finals with the school’s first playoff win ever, 4-0, to eliminate Moscow.
Kayla Stiegemeier’s goal at 2 minutes proved the winner.
