Newberg sparks Riverside

Kayla Newberg put in a dominant performance, tallying 22 kills, five aces and six blocks as Riverside scored the last six points for a thrilling 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-13 win over Colville in Great Northern League volleyball action Thursday at Riverside.

Newberg and Sarah Robinson, who also had 37 assists and 15 digs, combined for seven kills in Game 5 as the Rams (1-0) overturned a 13-9 deficit in the final game.

Caitlin McGrane registered 12 kills and 12 digs for the Indians (1-1)

In other GNL matches, Jordan Monasmith had a match-high 16 kills and added three aces as Chewelah (1-1) rallied for a 14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 15-10 win over Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (1-1) at Chewelah. Brooke Schanzenbach chipped in with six blocks for Chewelah. … Grethe Vogel had 10 kills and Miranda Weitz had five aces as Pullman (2-0) swept Deer Park (0-2) 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 at Pullman.
