Seattle sets record pace

The Spokesman-Review

Through the 2005 season, Seattle has had major league baseball for 30 years. First with the Pilots in 1969 and since 1977 with the Mariners. Seattle teams have never won or made it to the World Series (despite winning 116 games in 2001).

Counting the season in progress, Seattle has had an NFL team for 30 years, as the Seahawks originated in 1976. They, too, have never won or made it to the Super Bowl, but they have had a dozen winning seasons.

Between Seattle’s pro football and baseball teams there have been 60 seasons without being to a championship. Can any other city with both an NFL and MLB team match the record of futility? Just wondering.
