Course eatery tees up full selection with menu

Sandwedges, the new restaurant in the clubhouse at Coeur d’Alene Municipal Golf Course, is a “tweener,” according to RJ Johnston, general manager.
“We serve dinner, but it’s not a dinner house,” he said. “And we have breakfast and lunch, but it’s not a cafe either. It’s nicer than that.”
Open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, Sandwedges has a full menu and daily specials for golfers, and “We hope we can be the neighborhood restaurant,” Johnston said. He has 15 years of restaurant experience in Spokane and Seattle. Co-owner Jean Stephens came from Utah.
Open hours and the number of employees will increase from six to about 15 as the golf season lengthens.
The place seats 100 customers at tables inside and 60 on the deck. Phone 664-2800.
High-class imports
The Mini Cooper caught my attention. I know the little critters may have trouble with snow, but, man, they’re cute!
This rascal is one of 15 cars in the opening inventory of high-performance, luxury, imported vehicles at Lake City Imports. The new dealership opened Monday at 1705 Northwest Boulevard, Coeur d’Alene. Cars range from $16,000 to $35,000.
Owner Austin Garrett hand-picks his used cars after being raised around them in Bellevue, Wash., an afflluent Seattle suburb loaded with Mercedes, BMWs and Audis. Now 28, he was used-car manager at Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg for seven years.
His renovated 8,400-square-foot facility includes a showroom, lounge, children’s area and an area with computer and fax connections. The cars are brought inside at night and during inclement weather. They’re inspected by Mark’s Automotive in Post Falls and completely detailed before being offered for sale. Garrett also offers a buying service to find the perfect car for a customer.
Lake City Imports’ hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and expanding to Sundays in June. Phone 292-1621.
