UW star defensive end injures knee
SEATTLE – The Washington football team suffered what could be its first significant injury of the fall season Saturday as junior defensive end Greyson Gunheim went down with a knee injury during a kickoff coverage drill at Husky Stadium.
Gunheim’s injury was the biggest news on a day when head coach Tyrone Willingham opened up practice to the media for the first time since the first practice of the season. The Huskies spent much of the day going through scrimmage-like situational drills with officials, and the result was a clear advantage to the defense and a sloppy performance by the offense.
But most of the action on the field took a backseat to the injury to Gunheim, a two-year starter who led the team with 11 tackles for loss and five sacks last season. Willingham called the injury “unfortunate” and said he did not yet know the extent of it.
