Returning All-North Idaho players

Nine first-team 2005 selections return, seven of whom are girls. Junior defender Gunnar Paulsen of Sandpoint and junior defender/forward Jalon Eborall of Coeur d’Alene return for the boys, while senior forward Becca Stone of Sandpoint, senior forward Natalie Nichols of Lakeland, senior midfielder Sara Quinn of Moscow, senior defender Ali Ward of Lakeland, sophomore defender Brittany Oakley of Sandpoint, senior forward/midfielder Tara Roetter of Coeur d’Alene and senior defender Courtney Walker of Coeur d’Alene return for the girls.

Season starts early, ends earlier

The state tournaments were moved up a week forcing the regular season to begin a week earlier. State activities officials moved the state tourneys from the traditional end of October dates because the tourneys have been hampered by cold weather the past two years.

Coaches in North Idaho and Eastern Idaho are hopeful that better weather during the state tourneys will mean that the state tourneys can again be rotated to their regions of the state. Coaches outside of Boise are concerned that the state activities association may decide to hold the state tourneys permanently in the Boise area.

Who to watch in the Intermountain

Bonners Ferry’s boys and St. Maries’ girls are the defending state qualifiers in the Intermountain League.

BF’s boys will be favored to earn the conference’s lone state berth while St. Maries, BF and Orofino will battle in the girls.

Defending state champs
