LAS VEGAS – Will Lowe, Cody Ohl and Trevor Brazile added more hardware to their Gold Buckle collections Thursday night at the National Finals Rodeo.
Lowe, from Canyon, Texas, clinched his second consecutive world bareback title and third in leads the aggregate standings and has $228,285 in world earnings.
Ryan Gray of Cheney, paired with Harry Vold Rodeo’s Dusty Dan, took his second consecutive no score.
Tom McFarland of Wickenburg, Ariz., won the round with an 82.5 on Night Jacket.
In tie-down roping, Ohl, of Hico, Texas, won his sixth world title. The aggregate leader, Ohl increased his sizable world lead over Brazile, of Decatur, Texas, to just more than $86,000 by tying for first with Clint Robinson of Spanish Fork, Utah, with a time of 7.6 in the eighth round.
In all-around, Brazile increased his lead to just more than $119,000 over Joe Beaver of Huntsville, Texas, and clinched his fourth world title.
In barrel racing, Brandie Halls of Carpenter, Wyo., placed first in the round with an arena-record time of 13.52.
In steer wrestling, Luke Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., expanded his world lead by placing third in 3.8 after winning the previous two rounds and four overall. Lee Graves of Canada won the round with a time of 3.5.
In team roping, Matt Sherwood of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Walt Woodard of Stockton, Calif., held on to their world header and heeler leads despite placing 10th.
In saddle bronc riding, Jeff Willert of Belvidere, S.D., was the round’s winning rider with a score of 86 on Blazing Saddle. Regular-season champ Cody DeMoss of Heflin, La., who placed 11th, has won $186,890.
In bull riding, B.J. Schumacher, of Hillsboro, Wis., increased his world standings lead to more than $43,000 by placing second with an 86 on Black Berry Wine. Dustin Elliott of North Platte, Neb., won the round with a 91.5 on Big City.
