Dove spreads its chocolate wings to include cookies

Lorie Hutson

Chocolate lovers will be licking their fingers for several new cookies from Dove chocolate.

Dove is now using its chocolate expertise to coat cookies with milk chocolate. The Spokesman-Review food panel tasters liked the decadent morsels. Some panel members weren’t all that impressed with the cookies, but liked the chocolate nonetheless.

“The mediocre cookie is transformed into a work of art by coating the bottom with lusciously rich and smooth chocolate,” said taster Skip Hubbard.

Laura Hollman agreed, “Definitely a store-bought cookie… A bit sweet. The chocolate melts all over your fingers. This may be a good thing.”

“Chocolate overload. This is worth the calories,” added Nancy Robinson.

Others said the cookies were nothing better than ho-hum, even with the chocolate.

“Too sweet for me,” said Marcia Oranen. “Tastes like an ordinary store bought cookie even with the chocolate on the bottom.”

Andy Hoye didn’t like the chocolate because it melted in his hand. “The chocolate bottom is messy, and the overall taste is average,” he said.

“Best they stick to Dove ice cream bars,” said Marilyn Moore.

The Chocolate Walnut Oasis and Beyond Chocolate Chunk cookies received three-and-a-half-stars each.

The smaller butter cookies topped with chocolate and toffee chips, and dipped in chocolate, fared better with the panel. Both received a four-star rating from the panel.

“Mmm. I like this,” said panel member Matt Quesnell of the Milk Chocolate Moment cookies. “Really good, soft chocolate and the cookie wafer has a smooth texture, too. I could keep popping these like popcorn, so the package of 15 might only last around 15 seconds.”

“Oh, yes! Anything with toffee keeps me coming back again and again and again,” Hubbard said.

“So dainty, but really good,” Moore said.

Dove also makes Chocolate Walnut Rendezvous cookies and Mint Chocolate Serenade cookies.
