Gonzaga Bulldogs

GU plays its rematch with WCC travel partner Portland on Monday. The Zags tripped UP 81-64 in Spokane in late January, but the Pilots were without second-leading scorer Darren Cooper (turf toe). Cooper has since returned, scoring 20 points in each of his last two games.

The Vandals have lost 11 straight road games, but San Jose State is just 1-8 at home. Alex Elam (13.8 points) and Demetrius Brown (12.9) are the Spartans’ primary threats. .

Utah State, which routed Idaho 83-58 in mid-January, is second nationally in field-goal percentage (50.8) and leads the WAC in scoring defense (63.4).

WSU Cougars

Today: vs. UCLA, 5:30 p.m.

Saturday: vs. USC, 3 p.m.

Outlook: The Cougars lost six straight the last time they beat Washington. Now they get a second chance. UCLA is on top of the Pac-10 despite suffering a number of injuries. Guards Jordan Farmar and Arron Afflalo are the top two threats, and they make the Bruins competitive every time on the floor. The Cougars had a chance to take UCLA to overtime in Los Angeles, but Kyle Weaver missed a layup in the final seconds. WSU also lost at USC when sophomore guard Nick Young scored 32 points. The Trojans’ No. 2 threat, Gabe Pruitt, is out after breaking his tibia in practice.
