Hearts put to the test

The Spokesman-Review

I must admire Gonzaga coach (Mark) Few’s skill at producing dramatic basketball entertainment this season. Avoiding blowouts where possible, he has kept us glued to our TVs right up to the last buzzer, sometimes sweaty-palmed and barely breathing.

In the recent come-from-behind one-point win against Saint Mary’s, and with no time left, he even coached Sean Mallon to miss the front end of a two-shot foul to avoid making things look too easy. During the time outs preceding the final shot, this contrived little thrill caused thousands of non-Catholic fans to drop to their knees in prayer, face Rome, and roll imaginary rosary beads in their fingers.

What drama! What entertainment!

Now, Coach, before the postseason begins and Spokane’s emergency rooms start to overflow with acute cardiac cases, perhaps you give us all a little respite, say, a 15-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
