Sutton seeks treatment for alcoholism
Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton acknowledged Wednesday that he drank alcohol before an automobile accident that put him in the hospital and cast doubt about his coaching future.
During a late-night news conference at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater – where the Cowboys play on Eddie Sutton Court – the 69-year-old Sutton addressed reporters by phone. He said that during his medical leave of absence, which was announced Monday, he would seek treatment for alcoholism.
Oklahoma State president David Schmidly said Sutton’s future would be addressed after he returns from his medical leave of absence. Sutton’s son, Sean Sutton, will continue to coach the Cowboys in the interim.
•After fueling speculation Monday that his tenure with Indiana might be nearing an end, Mike Davis said that he appreciated the opportunity to coach one of the nation’s most storied basketball programs, and doesn’t plan to quit.
