Chris Ayer‘s 5-foot, one-handed jumper at the buzzer gave Loyola Marymount a come-from-behind victory over San Diego in Los Angeles. The Lions erased a 17-point second-half deficit to win for the only the fourth time in 15 games. Ayer shot 7 of 10 and scored 19 points. Matthew Knight scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Wes Wardrop scored 19. … Alan Wiggins scored 18 points and San Francisco ended a four-game losing streak by beating Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif. Armondo Surratt, Jerome Gumbs and Jason Wallace-Carter each added 13 points for the Dons, with Wallace-Carter coming up especially big in a decisive 17-2 San Francisco run to close the game. Wallace-Carter scored eight of the Dons’ first 10 points during the closing rally. … John Bryant had 15 points and 13 rebounds in leading Santa Clara over Portland in San Jose, Calif. Travis Niesen scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds as the Broncos won their third straight game and fourth in five. Pooh Jeter scored a season-high 29 points to lead the Pilots, who lost at Santa Clara for the 29th time in 35 games. Portland played without its third-leading scorer and leading rebounder Marcus Lewis, who was serving a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules.

Virgil Matthews and Andrew Strait scored 19 points each in Montana’s victory over Weber State in Missoula. Matthews, who also had 13 rebounds, scored twice in the final 1:43 as the Grizzlies pulled away from a 62-59 lead. Montana held a 58-45 lead after a three-point play by Strait with 9:46 remaining, but David Patten keyed a rally for the Wildcats, scoring nine of his 22 points in a 5 1/2 -minute stretch to bring Weber State within five points. … Ja’Ron Jefferson scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half in Montana State’s win over Idaho State in Bozeman, Mont. Jefferson hit 10 of 16 shots from the field, including 4 of 5 3-pointers.

Coby Karl scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, leading Boise State to a victory over foul-plagued New Mexico State in Boise. Boise State was leading 49-47 with 10 minutes left when Karl scored the Broncos’ next 12 points to put them ahead 61-55 with 3:55 remaining. … Nick Fazekas had 25 points and nine rebounds in leading Nevada to a victory over San Jose State in San Jose, Calif., snapping a two-game losing streak. Mo Charlo added 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Wolf Pack beat the Spartans for the seventh straight time. Carlton Spencer scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Spartans, who lost their 12th straight conference game. … Ja’Vance Coleman scored 25 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left, lifting Fresno State over Utah State in double overtime in Fresno, Calif. Quinton Hosley added 25 points and 17 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who scored the first 10 points of the second overtime before withstanding a furious Utah State comeback.
