Can the University of Washington and three other universities develop a digital canary in a coal mine to identify potential security threats or domestic health problems?

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the Tri-Cities has launched an ambitious plan to analyze huge amounts of information and spot trends and emerging security issues. The UW is one of the key players in this initiative, using programs and research the school has done for several years.
