All-Star MVP takes over to down Storm
All-Star game MVP Katie Douglas scored 26 points, and the Connecticut Sun rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit for a 92-83 win over the Seattle Storm in Seattle on Sunday night.
The Sun finally found success on the West Coast having previously lost in Phoenix, Sacramento and Los Angeles this season. Connecticut used an impressive third-quarter run to win in Seattle for the first time in franchise history.
Trailing 50-44 at halftime, the Sun outscored Seattle 28-10 in the third, behind Douglas’ 10 points. Taj McWilliams-Franklin added eight and Asjha Jones had six in the quarter as Connecticut made 12 of 17 shots in the third. They never trailed after taking the lead at 54-53 on a free throw by McWilliams-Franklin.
Seattle made a final charge, pulling within 82-76 on Betty Lennox’s driving layup with 3:00 remaining, but the Storm missed three of their next four shots and Douglas’ 3-pointer with 1:15 left pushed the Sun lead back to 10.
Lauren Jackson led Seattle with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sue Bird and Betty Lennox each added 16.
•Storm reserve guard Shaunzinski Gortman is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in her right knee, the team said Saturday.

Shock 77, Silver Stars 67: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Cheryl Ford had 20 points and 17 rebounds to help Detroit beat San Antonio.
Sparks 90, Lynx 78: At Minneapolis, Lisa Leslie scored 29 points and Chamique Holdsclaw added 20 as Los Angeles beat Minnesota.
Fever 60, Comets 56: At Indianapolis, Tamika Whitmore scored 22 points as Indiana beat Houston.
Mystics 83, Sky 75: At Chicago, Nakia Sanford scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Washington beat the Sky.
