Twig’s included in Taste Washington

The Spokesman-Review

Twig’s Bistro and Martini Bar will be there, too.

The bistro was left out of the listing of new restaurants and wineries that will be at Taste Washington this year. The gigantic wine- and food-tasting event is Sunday at the Davenport Hotel.

Tickets to the event are $75 and can still be purchased locally at Arbor Crest and Latah Creek wineries, Peters and Sons, Williams Seafood and Wine, and Vino! Purchase tickets online at www.tastewashington.org.

A portion of event proceeds benefit the Davenport District Arts Board. Auction proceeds benefit Washington State University Viticulture and Enology Program and the School of Hospitality Business Management Program.

‘Shop with the Chef’ next Wednesday

Friends of the Spokane Farmers’ Market will host a “Shop with the Chef” event at next Wednesday’s market.

Chef Brian Hutchins from Mizuna will lead a tour of the market and discuss the best strategies for buying and using market-fresh produce at home. He’ll also prepare a meal and offer recipes for participants to take home.

The tour begins at 9:30 a.m., and the class costs $15, or $10 for members of Friends of the Farmers’ Market. For more information or to reserve a space, call Eli Penberthy (509) 951-4361.

Farmers’ market dinners scheduled

There are two chances in the next few weeks to enjoy meals made from farmers’ market foods.

Chef Adam Hegsted of Brix in Coeur d’Alene will make a multicourse benefit dinner next Wednesday from foods from several local farms paired with wines. The dinner will benefit The Chef’s Collaborative, a national organization that encourages sustainable farming practices and connects chefs and consumers with local artisanal food producers.

The dinner will be held at Brix, 317 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene, and the cost is $65 per person. For more information or to make reservations, call (208) 665-7407 or e-mail ahegsted@yahoo.com.

Also, Mizuna Chef Brian Hutchins will prepare a five-course dinner featuring produce from the farmers’ market on June 21 at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes barely cooked Copper River salmon, chilled fresh English pea soup with local peas and pea shoots, and summer berry clafoutis with crème fraîche ice cream. Each course will be paired with wines by Vino! owner John Allen.

Dinner is $65 per person. For more information or to RSVP, call Sylvia Wilson at 747-2004.
