McCarthyism lives through scandal

“Are you now, or have you ever been on human growth hormones?” I find the latest revelations by Jason Grimsley about his and other players’ use of HGH very disturbing. Not because of the illegal act itself, but because, as the investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs goes forward, there is a distressing trend toward a McCarthy-like witch hunt. It is laudable to admit one’s own wrongdoings, but shame on Grimsley for naming names. And shame on the government for asking him to do so.
