Fox Hunt back for 25th time at SRP

Paul Delaney Correspondent

Spokane Raceway Park is host to the track’s 25th Annual Fox Hunt under the lights Saturday. It’s the second-biggest event SRP hosts each year outside of the World Finals.

The tradition of the Fox Hunt allows women to be admitted free to the spectator grandstands, “and no coupon is required, just show up,” stressed new general manager J.R. Tice.

The event will feature a pair of jet funny cars owned by Richard Smith as well as a collection of both alcohol dragsters and funny cars.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday with spectators admitted at 3.

Work has also been ongoing to get SRP’s oval track open. The half-mile oval quietly opened last weekend with limited car counts, but Tice said that should change as more races are added.

Busy time for Stateline

Stateline Speedway begins a busy span of racing with a visit from the Outlaw Street Stocks Saturday night (time trials 6, racing 7:30) in the Liberty Tire 75. Also on the schedule are Hobby Stocks and a special appearance from the Road Runners.

Spokane’s Randy Lasswell will attempt to score the hometown win along with other area drivers such as 2005 Stateline Hobby Car champion Craig Felix. Bump-to-Pass class regular Darryl Carillio makes first Outlaw start. Aaron Nevers and Tim Stanke are other locals expected to use their “home-track advantage.”

Monday is the annual Independence Day Demolition Derby and Fireworks show. The track suggests that fans buy tickets at Post Falls Les Schwab Tires in advance as the event is always a sellout.

Northport Liberty Race

They’re going to doing a lot of playing in the dirt and mud this weekend at Northport International Raceway as the track presents the Tripp Distributing Liberty Race.

Activities are spread out over three days and add Mud Bogs into the regular racing program consisting of Modifieds, Street Stock and Fever Four classes.

Friday features hot lapping on the dirt track side and registration for the mud boggers. On Saturday the competition kicks into gear with mud bogs at 9 a.m. followed by qualifying and trophy dashes for the stock cars.

Saturday is also “Kids Day” with youngsters getting rides in cars among other activities.

Mud bogs start off Sunday’s final day of racing at 9 a.m. followed more time trials, dashes, heat races and main events in all classes.
