Hampton jazz festival names winners

The University of Idaho has announced the winners of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Student Competition in February. More than 375 high school and secondary school bands, combos and soloists participated in the event along with 180 groups and soloists from colleges. There is one winner in each category along with one or more runners up in some categories.

Outstanding AAA Choir: Coeur d’Alene High School, Sandpoint High School (runner up)

Outstanding Vocal Combo: St. George’s School, Bella Ensemble (Moscow, runner up), Sandpoint High School (runner up)

Outstanding B Choir: St. George’s School

Outstanding Multimike Choir: Central Valley High School (runner up)

Outstanding Nonmixed Choir: Sandpoint High School I, Sandpoint High School II (runner up)

Outstanding Soprano Solo: Tasha Koontz, St. George’s School; Ashley Haugen, Coeur d’Alene High School (runner up)

Outstanding College Baritone Sax Solo: Matt Walsh, Whitworth College
