Morrison should stay

The Spokesman-Review

As a Gonzaga graduate (Class of 1994), I would like to give Adam Morrison some advice. I’m sure he’ll be getting plenty over the next couple of months, and he can take mine however he pleases.

Right now, there are kids and parents who are staking their entire futures on becoming professional athletes. It seems that college athletics have become merely a stepping stone to get into the big-money world of professional sports, and now there are kids who are going straight to the pros from high school. Wouldn’t it be nice if Adam Morrison would actually earn his college diploma before going pro?

It’s not as if his “stock” is going to go down if he waits another year and enters the NBA with a diploma in hand. How about a nod toward education? How many professional athletes can actually form a complete sentence when they are doing postgame interviews?

No, Adam does not have to be the poster child for education, but it would be nice if someone sent a message to kids devoting all of their time to after school sports that an education is what will help you achieve success when your days of athletic victories are over.
