Local semifinal matchup: Newport vs. Kalama, 7 p.m.
Fast facts: The veteran Grizzlies (23-0) and Brewster Bears (24-0) could again meet in the finals. Last year the Bears won 5-0 for their third championship in a seventh straight State 1A trip. Brewster also has two titles and two second places in 14 State B tournaments. Newport plays by committee, often using three and more pitchers per game with offensive contributions from 13 players. Nick Collison and Josh Tiede are pitching mainstays and the team’s best hitters. Zach Green, Erik Betz, Chance Hargrove and Chad Hunt are big contributors.

Local semifinal matchup: Lind-Ritzville (20-3) vs. Pateros (20-4), 10 a.m.
Fast facts: Pitchers Travis DeWald (7-2) and Cameron Stevenson (9-2) are major reasons why Lind-Ritzville is back in the state semifinals. Pateros tied Waterville and Kittitas in the North Central League, won district and beat both Northport and Asotin in eight innings to advance to its first state semifinals. Last year Lind-Ritzville lost to DeSales 10-7 and finished fourth. The Broncos are on opposite sides of the bracket this year from DeSales (19-4), which is making its 16th straight appearance. The Irish have won 13 championships including the last six.
