Spokane finished third in the District 8 championships then won two straight in the Eastern Regional to advance to state for the first time. … Kristina DeMello, who earned All-GSL honors, picked up wins over Kennewick and University, striking out 35 hitters in the process. … Kentlake is coming off the Bi-District title, where pitcher Kelsey Reynolds limited Prairie to seven hits while striking out seven. …Shadle’s Highlanders feature six freshman or sophomore starters and only one senior (Kinzee Powell).

Fast facts: District 7 champion Colville didn’t get any breaks in the draw, facing three-time state titlist – and defending champion – Montesano in the first round. … The Indians’ Jordan Emmill is undefeated (11-0) in the circle. … Cass Stuart and Emilee Lepp each had home runs in the district title game. … Medical Lake’s Caitlin Smith (18-5) shut out Pullman in the winner-to-state game. She was the Great Northern League MVP. … The Cardinals are paced on offense by Rachel Maddox, Chelsea Hardenbrook and Courtney Walle.

Fast facts: Defending champ Onalaska and runner-up Concrete are back, though they can’t meet for the title this year. Both are in the lower half of the bracket with Freeman. … Colfax gave Onalaska its best game last year, losing to the Loggers 5-3.
