YAKIMA – Pullman beat R.A. Long 21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 22-25, 15-11 in the match for third and sixth places at the State 2A tournament Saturday at the SunDome.
R.A. Long lost to Grandview 27-25, 25-20, 25-9 in the semifinals before playing Pullman.
The Greyhounds, the defending 2A champions, lost to eventual champion Selah 25-12, 25-19, 25-9 in the other semifinal.
Pullman entered the tournament with an undefeated record.
Selah coach Kay Aberle said the win over Pullman was anything but easy.
“We are very similar,” she said. “It was like we were playing ourselves. There were a couple things that helped us – they were a step slower and we were a bit more experienced.”
Selah went on to beat Grandview in the finals in three games. Selah beat Tumwater and Eatonville on Friday.
