The positives: Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn are on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time this year.
The negative: So is Mark McGwire.
If online columnist Vince Grippi had a vote, there is no way he would vote for McGwire’s induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame.
“It’s impossible to compare his numbers to the greats of the past because of the evidence he used performance-enhancing drugs,” writes Grippi.

Few tickets left for WSU-GU tilt

Yanks get Igawa for $26 million
The New York Yankees won the bidding for Japanese pitcher Kei Igawa when the Hanshin Tigers accepted their offer of $26,000,194 Tuesday.
The New York Mets bid about $15 million for Igawa, a baseball official said on condition of anonymity because the amounts of losing bids are not disclosed.
The Yankees have until midnight at the end of Dec. 28 to work out a contract with the 27-year-old left-hander.
