Yankees 6, Tigers 4: At New York, Alex Rodriguez snapped out of a 1-for-24 slump with three hits, including his 27th home run, and Bernie Williams had two RBIs, backing Randy Johnson and leading New York to the victory over Detroit.

Devil Rays 5, White Sox 3 (10): At Chicago, Jorge Cantu hit a two-run single in the 10th inning, and Tampa Bay got the victory to keep Chicago from pulling within 3 1/2 games of first-place Detroit in the Central.

Twins 3, Royals 1: At Minneapolis, Johan Santana dominated, striking out 11 in seven innings to help Minnesota end a three-game losing streak with a win over Kansas City. Rondell White homered for Minnesota, which is one-half game behind Chicago in the wild-card race and trails Detroit by five games in the A.L. Central.

Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5: At Boston, Alex Cora’s seventh-inning fly was about 10 feet from the right-field fence, but Alex Rios juggled the ball and accidentally knocked it over the wall for a two-run homer that boosted reeling Boston to the victory over Toronto.

Rangers 7, Orioles 5: At Arlington, Texas, Gary Matthews Jr. led off with a disputed home run to quickly end Daniel Cabrera’s 16-inning scoreless streak and Texas went on to get the victory over Baltimore.
