Rock climber speaking at NIC
North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits is sponsoring a presentation by speed rock climber Hans Florine at 7 p.m. Friday in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building.
Florine is an international rock climbing champion, a three-time ESPN X-Games champion and an eight-time national champion. He holds numerous speed climbing records in Yosemite National Park as well as worldwide.
The event is being held in conjunction with Adopt-A-Crag climbing crag cleanup activities. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in trail maintenance, making the trails more user-friendly and preserving natural areas, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, at Q’emiln Riverside Park in Post Falls. Volunteers will post signs to direct climbers to various climbing areas, and clean up graffiti on the rocks.
Adopt-A-Crag Day is a nationwide day of improving, cleaning and celebrating local crags through volunteerism. Adopt-A-Crag is organized by the Access Fund, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the climbing environment.
Both events are free and open to the community. For more information, call (208) 769-7809.
