Navy 28, East Carolina 23: At Annapolis, Md., Brian Hampton ran for 149 of Navy’s 403 rushing yards in a win over the Pirates. Hampton carried the ball 34 times in his first start for the Midshipmen and also scored on a 2-yard run.
Pittsburgh 38, Virginia 13: At Pittsburgh, Tyler Palko threw a pair of first-down touchdown passes longer than 70 yards and the Panthers got the victory over Virginia.

North Carolina State 23, Appalachian State 10: At Raleigh, N.C., Andre Brown ran for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead the Wolfpack past the Division I-AA national champions.
Richmond 13, Duke 0: At Durham, N.C., Andrew Howard kicked two field goals and Eric Ward threw a touchdown pass in his college debut to lead to the win, the Blue Devils’ ninth loss in a row.
Central Florida 35, Villanova 16: At Orlando, Fla., Steven Moffett threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns as the Golden Knights beat the Wildcats, the first season-opening win for the team in eight years.
Maryland 27, William & Mary 14: At College Park, Md., Lance Ball ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns, Keon Lattimore had a career-high 86 yards rushing and a score, and the Terrapins beat the Tribe.
Wake Forest 20, Syracuse 10: At Winston-Salem, N.C., Micah Andrews rushed for 142 yards and the Demon Deacons beat the Orangemen, despite losing quarterback Benjamin Mauk to an arm injury.
Rutgers 21, North Carolina 16: At Chapel Hill, N.C., Ray Rice rushed for 201 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, and the Scarlet Knights withstood a late scare from the Tar Heels to win.
Troy 38, Alabama State 0: At Troy, Ala., Omar Haugabrook threw four touchdown passes and Julian Foster threw another in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory for the Trojans.

Indiana 39, Western Michigan 20: At Bloomington, Ind., Blake Powers and Graeme McFarland each threw one touchdown pass, and the Hoosiers scored off an interception and punt returns to beat the Broncos.
Kansas 49, Northwestern State 18: At Lawrence, Kan., Kerry Meier had a solid debut as Jayhawks quarterback, passing for two touchdowns and running for two more in a rout of the Demons.
Wisconsin 35, Bowling Green 14: At Cleveland, John Stocco threw a touchdown pass and sneaked for a score, leading the Badgers to a win over the Falcons in Bret Bielema’s debut as head coach.
Missouri 47, Murray State 7: At Columbia, Mo., Chase Daniel set a team record with five touchdown passes, helping the Tigers beat the Racers.
Daniel, making his first career start, was 23 of 32 for 320 yards with a passer rating of 207.44.
Kansas State 24, Illinois State 23: At Manhattan, Kan., the Wildcats scored two special teams touchdowns and stopped Redbirds quarterback Luke Drone on a two-point conversion in the final minutes to preserve the victory.
Illinois 42, Eastern Illinois 17: At Champaign, Ill., Tim Brasic threw for 149 yards and Pierre Thomas rushed for 126 yards on 15 carries as the Fighting Illini snapped a nine-game losing streak with the victory.
Cincinnati 31, Eastern Kentucky 0: At Cincinnati, Dominick Goodman caught a touchdown pass from two different quarterbacks and Nick Davila completed 10 of 19 passes for 121 yards to help the Bearcats to the win.
Ohio 29, Tennessee-Martin 3: At Athens, Ohio, despite a lack of offense, the opportunistic Bobcats used T.J. Wright’s 35-yard fumble recovery and a safety on their way to a win over in its season opener.

Arkansas State 14, Army 6: At Jonesboro, Ark., Reggie Arnold ran for 140 yards and a touchdown as the Indians got a rare win in their home opener. The Indians finished with 319 yards of offense to the Cadets’ 164.
Oklahoma State 52, Missouri State 10: At Stillwater, Okla., Bobby Reid threw four touchdown passes – doubling his 2005 season total – and Mike Hamilton rushed for 155 yards to lead the Cowboys over the Bears.
Texas A&M 35, The Citadel 3: At College Station, Texas, Stephen McGee threw for 200 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score in his second career start as the Aggies beat the Bulldogs.
Houston 31, Rice 30: At Houston, Kevin Kolb threw two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Cougars came from 16 points down to defeat the Owls.
