Eagles get in win column with scoring outburst

The Eastern Washington women’s soccer team scored four unanswered goals to defeat Birmingham-Southern 4-2 Sunday in Cheney. It was the first win this season for the Eagles (1-3), who had been outscored 9-0 prior to the game.

M’ily Reiter, Lillian Bourret, Kelsey Tufnail and Melissa Guthrie all scored goals for the Eagles.

•The Washington State women got past Utah State in Salt Lake City by a score of 1-0. Sasha Baines scored early and the Cougars (2-1-1) held on.

•The University of Idaho women remain winless after a 4-0 loss to Montana in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals (0-4) were out shot 18-7.

•The Whitworth women played to a 1-1 tie with U.C. Santa Cruz at Orange, Calif. Whitney Ramsey scored the lone goal for the Pirates (1-0-1).

•The Community Colleges of Spokane lost 2-1 to Sacramento City College at the Sea Breeze tournament in Oxnard, Calif. Ashley Imes scored early for the Sasquatch (0-2) but Sacramento scored twice late to get the win.

•North Idaho College fell to Walla Walla C.C. 2-1 in Walla Walla. Whitney Melton scored for the Cardinals (2-1-0).

Women’s Volleyball

Whitworth lost a pair of games at the Pacific Boxer Kick Off Invitational in Foest Grove, Ore.

The Pirates (1-3) fell to Texas Lutheran in five games in the first game and lost in three games to St. Thomas in their second match.

Men’s Soccer

The Gonzaga University men’s soccer team fell to Navy 2-1 in the finale of the Anders Navy Classic at Annapolis, Md.

The Bulldogs (1-2-1) got a late unassisted goal from George Josten.
