Room is still available in several North Idaho College credit courses specifically designed for senior citizens 60 and older.

All courses are offered on NIC’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene unless otherwise noted.

Mental Fitness and Aging explores how lifestyle behaviors and cognitive training strategies that support memory function can maintain or even enhance thinking processes while aging. The class is offered from 6 to 7:50 p.m. in seven Monday sessions through Oct. 23. The course fee is $30.

Understanding the Use of Nonprescription Medications helps seniors understand the dosages, ingredients, side effects and drug interactions of over-the-counter drugs. The class will be offered from 1 to 2:50 p.m. in eight Monday sessions from Oct. 23 through Dec. 11. The course fee is $30.

Personal Safety for Seniors covers home safety, safe driving tips, safety in public places and community resources. Instruction will be provided by police and fire personnel and community information officers. The class is offered from 1 to 3 p.m. in eight sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays Oct. 3 through 26. The course fee is $20.

To register for courses, call the NIC Registrar’s Office at (208) 769-3320.

Another special service NIC offers to senior citizens is the NIC Gold Card program, which offers those 60 and older free admission to all NIC-sponsored events in which admission is charged. Events held on campus but sponsored by entities other than NIC, such as Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, are not included. To sign up for an NIC Gold Card, visit the Admissions Office in Lee-Kildow Hall or call (208) 769-3311.

In addition, seniors also qualify for a semesterlong parking permit at a reduced rate of $5. The permit allows seniors to park anywhere that student parking is permitted on campus.
