Indians top AquaSox
EVERETT, Wash. – A six-run fifth inning was all the Spokane Indians needed to get the job done on Monday night.
With one out in the top of the fifth, the Indians rallied past the Everett AquaSox and held on to the East Division lead as Spokane defeated Everett 6-1 in front of 2,148 fans in Northwest League action at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Matthew Lawson got things going for the Indians’ (29-30) offense with an RBI double to left field that scored Andres James.
With Renny Osuna at the plate, a wild pitch by Alfredo Venegas allowed Lawson to advance to third before Osuna doubled in the go-ahead run.
Jonathan Greene singled to left on the ensuing at-bat, scoring Osuna. Greene reached second on a late throw and advanced to third on a Mitchell Moreland bunt that landed Moreland safely at first in time for Ian Gac, the league’s home-run leader, to belt his 15th homer of the season – a three-run shot to center field.
The AquaSox (25-36) picked up the final two outs after bringing Brandon McKerney in to replace Venegas.
The five-game road series against the AquaSox continues tonight. The Indians return home Saturday for a three-game series with Tri-City.
