Area roundup: Benzel ties for second at NW PGA

Ryan Benzel of Seattle Golf Club tied for second place at the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship at Suncadia Resort in Roslyn, Wash.

Benzel, formerly of Ritzville, finished at 2-under-par 214, three shots behind Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash.

Benzel, who tied with defending champion Ryan Malby of Kalispell, Mont., earned $4,587.50.

Benzel earned a spot to the 41st PGA Professional Championship at Greensboro, Ga., in June.

“Lauren Howell of Mead High defeated Kimberly Santiago of Lynnwood, Wash., 3 and 2 to win the third flight final at the 52nd PNGA Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship at Ocean Shores (Wash.) Golf Course.
