Former UI athletes to be inducted into new Hall of Fame

Fifty-three former University of Idaho athletes and four teams will be inducted as part of the 2007 class into the newly founded Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Sept. 7. at the International Ballroom in the University of Idaho Student Union Building.

Also being recognized will be 39 inductees of the 2008 class and the 1998 football team.

The social begins at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost for dinner is $150 per individual or $250 per couple. For reservations, call Becky Paull at (208) 885-0245 or Margaret Henderson at (208) 885-0224.

Cross country

Former Greater Spokane League standouts Karen Owens (University) and Stephen Olsen (Ferris) headline a strong cross country recruiting class at Community Colleges of Spokane.

Four others signed letters of intent and will compete for the Sasquatch this upcoming season including Brittnee Sanchez (Grandview High School), Dak Riek (Mariner HS), Walter Juarez (Reno HS) and Jordan Butler (Jackson HS).

Rowing

Courtney Haase has been promoted to novice coach for the Gonzaga University women’s rowing team.

In her second year as an assistant in 2007, Haase coached the Second Varsity 8+ to a first-place finish at the Opening Day Regatta and a second-place finish at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.
