Funeral home donates headstone

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – A Twin Falls funeral home donated a headstone for a murdered child, saying everyone should have a monument marking their time here on Earth.

That’s after a 7-year-old girl, Kynli Mahnke, started raising money in jars she placed at businesses around Twin Falls.

Ashtyn Roger Lynn, just 2, was smothered last January by his 22-year-old baby sitter.

She was sentenced in November to 10 years in prison after her trial for second-degree murder.

But Lynn’s parents apparently didn’t have enough money for a headstone.

Normally, the state picks up such expenses.

But Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home offered a marker when it heard of Mahnke’s effort.

The $400 raised by the young girl will now go to someone else to help cover burial expenses.
