Boys basketball: Late rally propels Lancers

Aaron Weis scored a team-high 13 points and Liberty stormed back from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat St. George’s 36-32 Friday in the District 7 2B tournament at Spokane Falls Community College.

After falling behind 32-24 in the fourth quarter, the Lancers scored the final 12 points of the game to earn the win.

Henry Butler led the Dragons with 13 points.

In other tournament action at SFCC, Chazz Flett scored 14 points and Cody Stensgar added 13 as Wellpinit (14-10) edged Selkirk (16-7) 60-55. T.J. Flett tossed in 10 points for the Redskins, who outscored the Rangers 22-14 in the fourth quarter to erase a three-point third-quarter deficit. Travis Zimmerman led all scorers with 22 points for Selkirk, who will play St. George’s today at 12:45. Wellpinit advances to play Liberty today at 4 p.m. Both games are at SFCC.

Whitman County

Justin Taylor scored 23 points and Phillip Luft added 17 as St. John-Endicott (11-10) used a terrific fourth quarter to upset Garfield-Palouse (15-5) 62-50 in the league tournament at Endicott. The Eagles outscored the Vikings 25-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Saxon Wolf tallied a team-high 16 points for Garfield-Palouse, which will enter the District 9 1B Tournament Monday in Walla Walla as the No. 3 seed. St. John-Endicott will face No. 1 Tekoa-Oakesdale in the championship game today at 4 p.m. in Endicott. … Kris Widman scored 15 points and Daniel Palmer added 11 as Rosalia (11-11) edged LaCrosse-Washtucna (8-14) 48-46. The Spartans are the No. 4 seed into the District 9 1B Tournament. They have not reached a district tournament since 1996. The Nighthawks play a loser out/winner to district game against the Blue Mountain League No. 4 seed Prescott today at 2 p.m.

Northeast A

Jason Dorow and Mike Naccarato scored 19 points apiece as Chewelah (11-10) topped visiting Kettle Falls (6-14) 69-51 in the league tournament. Weston Sellars tallied a team-high 13 points for the Bulldogs, who are finished for the season. The Cougars will meet top-seeded Colfax (16-4) at Mead HS on Wednesday at 8 p.m. … Leif Parcell scored 17 points and Nick Phillips chipped in 16 as Lakeside (13-8) cruised past Newport (2-19) 64-48. The Eagles outscored the Grizzlies 22-8 in the second quarter. Lakeside will play No. 2 Freeman (15-5) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Mead. Newport’s season is over.

Great Northern League

Bryan Peterson scored 17 points and Glenn Akers added 13 as West Valley (15-3, 11-1) whipped visiting Riverside (5-13, 2-10) 67-36. Casey Sherrill tossed in 10 points and Jordan Lupfer-Graham added nine points and 10 assists for the Eagles. Cody Stumph tallied eight points to lead the Rams. … JT Levenseller scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added 12 rebounds and 10 assists as Pullman (10-8, 9-3) cruised to an easy 50-24 win over host Medical Lake (7-11, 4-8). … Drew Hansen scored 16 points and Cary Conklin added 15 as Clarkston (7-10, 7-4) topped visiting Deer Park (8-9, 5-6) 65-57. Dustin McConnell chipped in 13 points for the Bantams, who outscored the Stags 20-8 in the second quarter. Kevin McNeil tallied a game-high 18 points for Deer Park. … Drew Richmond scored a game-high 22 points and Brandon Hardie added 19 points and 10 rebounds as Cheney (7-10, 4-7) routed visiting Colville (8-9, 4-7) 81-57. Griffon Jones added 16 points and 12 boards for the Blackhawks.
