Stars slide by Avalanche in scorefest
Philippe Boucher and Jere Lethinen each had a goal and an assist for the Dallas Stars, who set a season high for goals in a 7-5 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday in Dallas, in a game neither starting goaltender finished.
Jeff Halpern scored on a rebound with 2:28 left for the Stars, who fended off three power plays with some nice saves by Mike Smith in the final 12 minutes to win their third straight game.
Lightning 4, Devils 1: At East Rutherford, N.J., Nick Tarnasky and Vincent Lecavalier scored in a 48-second span to cap a three-goal second period and lead Tampa Bay to a victory over New Jersey.
Vaclav Prospal and Dan Boyle also scored and Johan Holmqvist had 21 saves, while Scott Gomez scored the Devils’ only goal.
Blackhawks 5, Blue Jackets 4: At Columbus, Ohio, Martin Havlat had a goal and two assists and Chicago rode a three-goal spree in the first period to beat Columbus.
Havlat has seven goals and three assists in a six-game goal streak.
Peter Bondra and Bryan Smolinski each had a goal and an assist and Patrick Sharp and Martin Lapointe also scored for the Blackhawks.
Red Wings 7, Flames 4: At Detroit, Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and two assists, lifting Detroit to a win over Calgary.
Joey MacDonald notched his first career win in goal as the Red Wings outshot the Flames 50-20.
Oilers 5, Thrashers 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Petr Sykora set up three goals as Edmonton topped Atlanta.
Ryan Smyth, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Marc Pouliot, Joffrey Lupul and Raffi Torres scored for Edmonton, while Eric Belanger had the lone response for Atlanta.

Dallas center Eric Lindros missed Sunday’s game against Colorado with a lower-body injury. The Stars said he is day to day. … New Jersey center John Madden missed the final 6:28 of the first period after being hit by a shot and cut on the right side of his face in the Devils’ loss to Tampa Bay. Madden received an undisclosed number of stitches and played the final two periods wearing a visor on his helmet. He had a nasty gash below his eye and his face was swollen.
