Stuckey rallies EWU
SANTA BARBARA – Rodney Stuckey scored 21 of his 30 points in the second half Saturday to rally Eastern Washington for a 71-70 victory over UC Santa Barbara in a BracketBusters game.
Stuckey made just 3 of 10 shots from the field in the first half as UC Santa Barbara took a 29-28 lead. The sophomore guard rallied the Eagles (13-14) by scoring 10 points in the final 6 minutes, 6 seconds.
The Gauchos (15-9) suffered their third straight loss despite 27 points from Alex Harris, which included 5-for-10 shooting from the 3-point line.
Paul Butorac added 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots for Eastern Washington.
Kellen Williams clinched the victory over the Big West Conference foe with two free throws with 4 seconds left.
Eastern held UCSB to 37 percent shooting, the best defensive performance of the season for the Eagles against an NCAA Division I team. Eastern also outrebounded the Gauchos 38-35.
“I’m proud of our players for grinding out a victory in a really, really tough place to play,” said Eagles head coach Mike Burns. “They did a heckuva job and I thought our energy and our effort were very good tonight.”
