A.J. Graves, Butler fend off the Phoenix

A.J. Graves scored 20 points, Brandon Crone added 17 and No. 15 Butler (25-4, 12-2 Horizon League) beat Wisconsin-Green Bay (16-13, 7-8) 68-58 on Monday night in Green Bay, Wis.

Ryan Evanochko, who finished with 10 points, made two free throws to cut Butler’s lead to 58-56 with 2:19 to play, but Graves answered with a 3-pointer and Crone grabbed a rebound off Mike Schachtner’s shot and was fouled.

Crone hit both free throws to make it 63-56 and the Phoenix never came back within striking distance, missing six of their final seven shots.

(6) Kansas 71, Kansas St. 62: At Manhattan, Kan., freshman reserve Sherron Collins scored 20 points and the Jayhawks (24-4, 11-2 Big 12) beat the Wildcats (19-9, 8-5).

Mario Chalmers added 17 points, Darrell Arthur had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Brandon Rush finished with 11 points for Kansas.

(10) Pittsburgh 71, Seton Hall 68: At East Rutherford, N.J., Levance Fields scored seven of his 15 points in the final 2 1/2 minutes to help the short-handed Panthers (24-4, 11-2 Big East) hold off the Pirates (12-14, 3-10).

The Panthers were without injured 7-foot center Aaron Gray.

The victory was the 100th for Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon (100-26).

(12) Marquette 80, Villanova 67: At Milwaukee, freshman Lazar Hayward scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles (22-7, 9-5 Big East) to a victory over the Wildcats (18-9, 6-7).

Hayward, who entered the game averaging six points per game, had 13 in the first half. He fouled out late in the second half.

Women

(2) Tennessee 56, (7) LSU 51: At Baton Rouge, La., Candace Parker had 27 points and 13 rebounds to help the Lady Vols (25-2, 12-0 SEC) hold off the Lady Tigers (23-5, 9-3) for a victory.

The game was a defensive battle most of the way, with LSU outshooting Tennessee 40.4 percent to 31.3 percent.
