German selects Cougars

Washington State has received a verbal commitment from Fabian Boeke, a basketball player from Germany, to join the Cougars, according to a source close to the situation.

Boeke visited the school about a month ago, and the 6-foot-10 forward has since decided to turn down other scholarship offers from major-conference schools to attend WSU.

The lanky forward with outside shooting ability may arrive on campus this fall, depending on how his own situation and the team’s scholarship issues work out. Currently, the Cougars have no available scholarships for next season and unless someone decides to transfer – or if all the necessary compliance hurdles are cleared – Boeke would have to wait. WSU already has three international players on the roster, one each from Serbia, Australia and New Zealand.

Boeke could not be reached Monday.
