The Bengals (6-1, 2-0) hit 12 of 13 fourth-quarter free throws to overcome the Timberwolves (6-4, 1-2), who led with 4 minutes, 30 seconds left in the game. Shad Strerath scored 18 points, and Andrew Packwood had 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots for Lewiston. LC’s Ty Stoddard had 14 points and four rebounds.
“Jonathan Fuller had 14 points and four assists, and Josh McDonald added 12 points and 11 rebounds as Kellogg (6-3) rolled to a 64-35 win over visiting Bonners Ferry (8-4) in an Intermountain League opener. Kellogg shot 58 percent from the floor while the Badgers shot 29 percent.
Girls basketball
Katie Baker and Richelle Fenenbock combined for 37 points to lead Lake City (11-2, 5-2) to a 52-45 win at Lewiston (6-6, 3-2) in the Inland Empire League. The Timberwolves overcame a 30-25 halftime deficit and Lewiston’s five 3-pointers.
“Cassie Scheffelmaier finished with 15 points and eight steals to guide Kootenai (9-0, 2-0) to a 47-16 win at Mullan in the North Star League. Hannah Nyrop of the Warriors and Fawn Story of the Tigers (1-10, 0-1) had eight rebounds apiece.
Wrestling
Titus Turner’s 8-2 win over Les Wright at 160 pounds helped Lake City to a 42-36 Inland Empire League win over visiting Moscow. Moscow freshman Eric Frisbey (125) notched a second-round pin over senior Aaron Ackerman, who moved up a weight.
“Jacob Rodriguez’s 6-4 win over Robert Murphy at 130 started a landslide as East Valley (5-0) rolled to a 53-4 win over visiting Mead (4-2) in the Greater Spokane League. The Knights won the final 13 matches after Philip Smith’s major decision at 125. … Jeff Croskrey’s third-round pin of Ryan Rabe highlighted Central Valley’s 52-14 win over visiting Mt. Spokane (4-3). Jordan Choate (145) of the Bears (6-0) capped the night by pinning Ryan Phillipy in 1:08. … Greg Mitchell’s 9-5 win at 189 clinched University’s 47-27 win over visiting North Central (2-3). The Titans (6-0) won six of the last seven matches after Mike Pursel’s win at 152 for NC. … Trevor Brown (152) had a late reversal to force overtime and outlasted Lance Smith 17-12 in Gonzaga Prep’s 45-28 win over visiting Rogers (0-6). Gymnastics
Tonya Turner won the uneven bars (9.0) and vault (8.6) on the way to the all-around title (35.125) while leading Mead to the team title in a Greater Spokane League four-way meet at North Central. Mead’s Ashley Dotson won the floor exercise (9.35) and finished second in the all-around at 34.55. Central Valley’s Courtney Sexton won the balance beam (9.0).
