Chiefs thump Winter Hawks
PORTLAND – Michael Grabner scored a pair of goals – including one in a four-goal second period – to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 7-4 victory over the Portland Winter Hawks in Western Hockey League action on Monday.
The victory pushes the Chiefs (24-15-3-2, 53 points) into second place in the U.S. Division. Last-place Portland falls to 14-28-1-1, 30 points.
Spokane’s second-period goal binge came in the first 8 minutes, 7 seconds and erased a 2-1 deficit.
The Chiefs earned their fifth victory in five tries against Portland this season.
Spokane travels to Brandon for a 5:30 game on Friday – the first of a seven-game road trip covering nine days.
