Week ahead
WSU Cougars
Today: vs. Oregon State at Friel Court, 7 p.m.
Saturday: vs. Oregon at Friel Court, 7 p.m., FSN
Outlook: WSU hasn’t lost at home this season. If it shows up, tonight’s game shouldn’t pose too much of a threat as Oregon State limps in with starters Sasa Cuic (elbow) and Wes Washington (wrist) injured but expected to play. Oregon has lost just once all season and gave the Cougars a boatload of difficulties last season with a smaller, athletic lineup.
Gonzaga Bulldogs
Saturday: vs. San Francisco in the McCarthey Athletic Center, 5 p.m. (KHQ/FSN)
Monday: vs. San Diego in the McCarthey Athletic Center, 9 p.m. (ESPN2)
Outlook: The Dons come in boasting as much individual talent as any team in the conference and have a legitimate WCC player-of-the-year candidate in senior guard Armando Surratt. They will be without sophomore guard Antonio Kellogg, who – according to USF officials – will sit out the next two games to concentrate on academics. San Diego features the conference’s highest-scoring sophomore tandem in Brandon Johnson and Gyno Pomare, who have combined to average 29.7.
Idaho Vandals
Saturday: vs. Boise State, 7 p.m., Cowan Spectrum
Outlook: Idaho needs one win to match last season’s total. Boise State is in the middle of the WAC standings. BSU has won 10 straight in the series. The Broncos are led by guard Coby Karl, who averages 15.4 points. Eastern Washington University transfer Matt Nelson averages 14.8 points.
EWU Eagles
Thursday: at Sacramento State, 7:05 p.m.
Saturday: at Weber State, 6:05 p.m.
Outlook: Eastern, 3-8 on the road, has already finished with a pair of conference foes and faces the Hornets and Wildcats for the first time. Sacramento State, which has lost four straight, had no Big Sky games last week and hasn’t played since Jan. 16. Weber is one of the conference’s surprise teams but lost twice on its Montana swing.
